In its seventh year, BACARDI Miami Sailing Week presented by EFG is building on the success of previous year’s events, again offering six days of remarkable sailing competition. Celebrating its 90th anniversary, the Bacardi Cup has become a world known event valued by many. The Trofeo Bacardi traces its roots to 1920’s Havana’s, Cuba. The most anticipated multi-class regatta in Miami will take place from March 5th to March 11th, 2017.
Teams representing countries from all over the world will meet again and line up under Miami's sunny skies on Biscayne Bay to compete for the celebrate Bacardi Cup and the BMSW regatta trophy.
The Star Class will compete for the 90th time in the Bacardi Cup, the VIPER 640 will be back challenging their EFG Pan-American Championship, the J70s and the VX Ones are coming back numerously for their 3rd and 2nd year.
The regatta was conceived as a three-day event with sailors competing for the Trofeo BACARDI as part of the Cup of Cuba’s Mid-Winter Championship. In 1962 political unrest forced the Bacardi Cup to move from Havana to Coconut Grove, Florida, where it has since been hosted by the Coral Reef Yacht Club, the organizing authority for the BACARDI Cup. Heading into 2017, the Bacardi Cup continues to be the only Cuban-born sporting event to survive in the United States. This event now attracts more than 200 sailors each year from some 23 countries and the attention of national & international media. The 90th running of the BACARDI Cup for the Star class will be the marquee event of BACARDI Miami Sailing Week, with racing from Sunday, March 5th through Saturday, March 11th, 2017. Competition for the J/70, Viper 640 and VX Ones classes takes place Thursday, March 9th, through Saturday, March 11th.
The prestigious Coral Reef Yacht Club in Coconut Grove, Miami will continue to support the BACARDI Cup and BACARDI Miami Sailing Week with Mark Pincus as the Regatta Chairman. The event will also be sustained by Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, US Sailing Center, Shake a Leg, City of Miami, Coconut Grove business Development and Miami-Dade County.
