2015 Wobbly Club BYOB Regatta Report

2015 WOBBLY BYOB WRAP UP REPORT

2015 was a record-breaking year for the Wobbly Club, with the just shy of $12,000 USD being raised through the event which is the largest yet. For the first time ever, no one was able to accept prizes for “first vessel to sink” and/or “most dramatic sinking” as ALL teams made it to the finish line, floating and mostly intact! The 17 participating teams did not break the entry record but the spectator crowd definitely topped their numbers from years past, it was an awesome turn out!!!

This year saw lighter conditions, favoring the freestyle designs and helping CRISPY DUCK (Fenix/Cygnus) take first place. Unfortunately the rain clouds came over the hill just in time for the awards presentation and made for a wet evening. This may be the first time we have ever had rain at this event!

We were so happy to see so many crews, local vendors and repeat tourists come out in support of ABSAR. You can clearly see that this organization is well needed and wanted in Antigua. From rescuing crews from tragedy offshore to treating Captain’s families and little ones that may have a fever or insect bite, they really take care of the community. As a matter of fact, the day before the race, the s/y LIARA had a battery fire onboard while berthed at the Catamaran Marina. ABSAR, along with multiple yacht tenders were onsite quickly to remedy the issue and kept the fire from spreading and ensured no one got hurt.

It is such a pleasure to work with Julie and Jonathan from ABSAR, as well as Jenny from AYSS, Helen & Hugh at the Cat Club and Al & Laura from Cambusa restaurant. Also we cannot forget Charles, who was definitely a strong driving force this year!

I am really looking forward to next year’s WOBBLY BYOB Regatta and breaking the entry record. So everyone mark February 5th, 2016 on their calendars and we will see you in Antigua!

Thank you,
Jay Mulrooney
