The Chanler at Cliff Walk
Imbued with a visceral sense of history and gilded with architectural reminders of decades past, The Chanler at Cliff Walk is one of the most historic mansions in Newport and one of the top landmarks in Rhode Island. The story of The Chanler begins in 1870, when New York Congressman, John Winthrop Chanler started construction on the "cottage" that would one day become The Chanler at Cliff Walk. Completed in 1873 for the steep sum of $300,000, the mansion was built as a summertime retreat for Chanler and his wife Margaret Astor Ward, great granddaughter of the distinguished businessman and millionaire John Jacob Astor.

Bannister’s Wharf Guest Rooms
Bannister’s Wharf guest rooms consist of four waterfront rooms, each with two double beds and deck overlooking the harbor. Our fifth room has one queen bed, a view of the famous Newport Yachting Center that extends into the South West corner of the Harbor with a deck facing inland. Sharing the same deck is our harbor side Studio1. This unit has one bedroom with a queen size bed, seating area with a connecting bedroom with one double bed.
We also offer 2 and 3 bedroom Studio room located just above the Brahmin handbag store, in a historical building here on the wharf. These guest rooms each have a wet bar and lounge area and provide a spacious home away from home for your vacation with views of the wharf and shops.
All guest rooms have mini-coffee makers, hair dryers, private bathrooms, cable/internet, refrigerator and air conditioning/heat. All rooms are non smoking, please call for accessibility information.
