New England Boatworks Inc. has begun construction on their largest boat building project to date. NEB, approaching its 30th year of operation, is building a 94-foot aluminum powerboat for Newport Shipyard Owner, Charlie Dana. 

The Dana Family’s current sailing yacht, a 70-foot Hood designed aluminum ketch named Saint Roque, was one of the first boats ever built at NEB. Selecting NEB once again as the builder of their new powerboat, Contraband, demonstrates the Dana Family’s commitment to the local marine industry and brings their relationship with New England Boatworks “full-circle”.

The annual Newport Charter Yacht Show presented by Helly Hansen brought out the best in all who participated, including 100+ brokers and agents from 43 different charter yacht companies, 23 sponsors, 15 exhibiting vendors, 40 non-exhibiting vendors and captains and crews of 25 luxury yachts, ranging in size from the 60’ (18.3m) sailing vessel Beau Geste, presented by Bristol Marine, to the 198’ (60.4m) motor yacht Blue Moon, presented by Northrop and Johnson. The show, owned and managed by Newport Shipyard, took place on the company’s 10-acre waterfront facility for its second consecutive year over June 19-23 and was conclusively “bigger and better.”

The Candy Store Cup organizers have added a Corinthian Spirit class to this year’s superyacht regatta, slated to be held July 27-29, 2017 in Newport, Rhode Island. The Candy Store Cup, in its second year owned and organized by Newport Shipyard and Bannister’s Wharf, is an invitational superyacht regatta hosting yachts 90-feet and above for three days of racing and shoreside social soirees. Newport Shipyard received final approval from the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) on Tuesday, March 28, to expand its dock space by 560 additional feet. This added dock space, which will allow Newport Shipyard to handle more large yachts simultaneously, will add on to its current 2,833 feet of dock space, which will generate an estimated $500,000 in revenue annually.

Newport Shipyard is proud to announce that nearly EC $17,000 (US $6,300) was raised for Antigua Barbuda Search and Rescue (ABSAR) at the annual Wobbly Race fund-raiser in Antigua, West Indies on February 3, 2017. Newport Shipyard has been sponsoring the Wobbly Race for five years and sends a team down every winter to help organize and host the popular event among super yacht captains and crew.

Ten teams entered this year's annual Wobbly Race, which features a 'Build Your Own Boat (BYOB)' format, where yacht captains and crew build a 'boat' using two sheets of plywood and other supplies. Along with Newport Shipyard employees, volunteers from ABSAR and staff members from Catamaran Club Marina and Cambusa Italian Restaurant were on hand all day selling t-shirts, raffle tickets, food, beverages and supporting the teams.
